EERC ~ Faculty Associate - William M. Park
Ph.D., Agricultural Economics, Virginia Tech. M.S., Agricultural Economics, Purdue University. B.A., Economics, DePauw University. Dr. Park, a professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology, holds an appointment as a senior fellow with EERC. His research in the area of municipal solid-waste management has focused on factors influencing regional cooperation among communities in rural areas; the potential for use of unit pricing systems in a rural drop-off collection context; and policies for encouraging diversion of organic material from the waste stream through composting and other methods. His other research interests include examining the role of market-based or economic-incentive mechanisms in environmental policy, along with other aspects of institutional design that improve the equity and political acceptability of economically efficient policy measures. Dr. Park teaches an upper-division course in Natural Resource Economics (Agricultural Economics 470) that addresses these and other topics. The course is also available by correspondence. Dr. Park is a member of the American Agricultural Economics Association and the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists. His hobbies include hiking and camping.
