We have a number of educational initiatives that work on in the East Tennessee area. This starts with our work in East Tennessee's K-12 schools and higher-ed institutions. Here is a list of what we focus on in schools:

  • School presentations
  • our "Clean Fuels School" program

School presentations

During the 2006-07 school year, we reached over 700 students through school presentations. 2007-08 saw us increase that to over 1,700 students reached. 2008-09 we reached 3,600 students. In 2009-2010, ETCFC has presented to 5,000 students. Believe it or not, over 10,000 students were reached in the 2010-11 school year! What a success!
Our presentations focus on relaying the basics with our current oil predicament (e.g., how much we use, where it comes from), how and what alternatives are in use today and growing, and why reducing our petroleum use and our carbon footprints is important. Grace Loy (865-974-1880; gl.cleanfuels@gmail.com) is our lead for most of our presentations, and she's ready to tackle different presentations for different age groups spanning 1st grade to 12th grade. No matter what the size of the class, she can tailor a presentation to fit your classes needs and time.

The "Clean Fuels School" Program

Clean Fuels School IntroductionThe program is focused on getting middle or high school teams, classes or otherwise groups to take the alternative fuels and higher fuel economy message to citizens in their school and local community. It starts with a presentation from the ETCFC and proceeds with forming a plan for how the class or team will
Jennifer (r) and Patricia show a tool they created for Maryville Christian School to use to keep up with their activities towards becoming a "Clean Fuels School." (click for larger picture)
take that message into the community. We've developed a short, 2-page introduction to the program that helps explain how it works (click here or on the image at right to access), but remember that the ETCFC will be there to help every step of the way! In the end, the school will receive a full-size city street sign that denotes that their school is a "Clean Fuels School."

Grace Loy (865-974-1880; gl.cleanfuels@gmail.com) is our lead for this project, so call her if you have any questions about your school getting started!
