Saturn received the Natural Heritage Conservation Award from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. The award acknowledges Saturn for its 1998 efforts in the protection and preservation of Tennessee's natural landscape, including its vegetation and wildlife. There were separate awards for East, Middle, and West Tennessee.
Working with the Land Use Team, Saturn has implemented an improved land management approach that focuses on native vegetation and wildlife species enrichment, grounds maintenance cost reductions, water quality improvement, and aesthetics (or appearance). Various issues such as streamside vegetative buffers, problem maintenance areas, native species landscaping, and exotic pest plant control have been the main areas of concentration.
Award recipients were chosen using the following criteria:
Does the project provide for long term protection and enhancement of biological diversity (different species)?
Does the project have a long term positive impact?
Does the project use natural resources along with conservation of resources?
Does the project have a broad scope?
Has the nominee demonstrated a firm commitment to the
continued protection of the project area?
